Games Workshop Spray Paint

I managed to spray my new eldar this evening due to a lack of hockey practice and it struck me how useless GW spray is with metal models. You pay £8 for a can for a start. Sure, it will happily undercoat any plastic model you set it upon, but having spent half an hour outside freezing my fingers off (I love you, Scottish weather), to be rewarded with paint that just seeps into the creases I'm beginning to wonder if it's the best way to undercoat. Hand undercoating takes to long and I'm worried about using my local DIY stores stuff because of its thickness. Any ideas from people would be a great help i.e. what sort of spray do you use?

  1. Wash the models in water. You told me that. Works a treat as the paint doesn't gloop up and ruin the detail.

  2. Washing is indeed a plus - the same stuff that helps keep them from sticking in the molds helps keep paint from sticking.

Cold weather is also not good. For any kind of spraying (priming or sealing) you want warm weather (like 15C or warmer) and low humidity.

Can be a problem in Scotland in November I'd imagine!

  3. Thanks for the comments guys. I did wash the models, though in hidsight handsoap probably wasn't a great idea. Not sure how I can solve the cold problem but I'll keep at it.
